Mallorca - multi-faceted island in the Mediterranean sea

Palma

Mallorca, the largest Balearic Island and by the way the largest island belonging to Spain offers an unsurpassable variety to tourists and residents. Whether you are looking for cultural events, historical sites, breathtaking nature or the popular pulsating capital Palma: Mallorca with its various faces will surprise you day by day.

Numerous monuments, historic buildings, museums, churches and galleries form the cultural, architectural and artistic wealth of the island.

A special feature in the southwest of the island is the "Sierra de Tramuntana", since 2011 UNESCO World Heritage. With a range up to 15 km, with 11 peaks up to 1,500m altitude. Rugged and steep coastal areas, torrents and bays - a wonderful place to be for nature-lovers - extending from the municipality of Andratx up to the far north of Alcudia. On a clear and sunny day you can enjoy the views to Menorca, the little sister of Mallorca.

With its subtropical climate and the short winter we should mention the 158 sandy beaches, numerous small pebbly bays and more than 20 golf courses embedded perfectly in the breathtaking nature! Watersports or sunbathing, exotic dives or a relaxed golf vacation, you will never get bored.

For tennis fans among you, it might be certainly important that there is a big tennis center in construction in Santa Ponsa, where the popular WTA tournaments will take place! As one of Europe's most popular recreational areas there are offered almost all climate-related possible indoor and outdoor sports.

Here is some more useful information for you:
Mallorca is located east-facing of the Spanish mainland and has a maximum east-west distance of 98 kilometers and a north-south length of 78 kilometers (the whole coastline has a length of 550 kilometers) and is part of the autonomous region of the Balearic Islands with the capital “Palma de Mallorca” ruled by the Govern de les Illes Balears.

Mallorca itself is divided into 53 municipalities, each with its own administrative center. In the southwest there are the municipalities Calvia and Andratx, which are also the richest municipalities of Mallorca. The Tourism forms the backbone of the Balearic as well as the Majorcan economy and is clearly ahead of the second most important tourist region of Spain, Catalonia.
